Cop Jokes

Even before the Keystone Kops bumbled their way across the silver screen in 1912, people have loved to find humor in the usually serious profession of law enforcement and policemen. Television only served to fuel that tendency, offering glimpses into the zany antics (and lack of mental acuity) of Mayberry's Barney Fife, Hazzard County's Roscoe P. Coltrane, and Springfield's Chief Clancy Wiggum.

It's no wonder then, that there are literally thousands of cop-related jokes and riddles out there that have entertained the masses for decades. People like to think of policemen―usually the height of authority and power and commanding our attention if not our respect―as not-so-perfect professionals who aren't always at the top of their game.
