History of DMV

Maryland (as a state) was around for close to 100 years before the first glimmer of an automobile started taking shape. Multi-module transportation was already evolving in the state from rail and ferry travel to commuting via horse and omnibus. But since the first automobiles chugged along the open roads, things have changed a bit, especially in Maryland.

The state may be small but it has a huge task of managing the second most congested roads (behind Los Angeles) in the United States. You can also figure that a good number of these same people will be struggling just to get a handle on the various processes involved with the driving privilege.

Luckily, the state has an exceptionally efficient and thorough division running the show. The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) is the heart and brain of the entire system. It is where you take care of all matters relating to driving and your vehicle.

MVA offices are not available in every county, but considering the state's size, you will never have to drive too far to take care of your business. Plus, many services are available via mail or even online.
