Scooters and Mopeds
In many cities, people opt for the convenience (not to mention gas mileage) of a scooter or moped. Maryland law, however, makes it a little tough for you to just hop on your scooter and go.
If your engine is under 70ccs, it's illegal for you to ride the vehicle on public roads that have a speed limit of 50 MPH or more, and if your engine is over 70ccs, then MVA classifies the vehicle as a motorcycle.
Motorcycle classification means you need to follow the same procedures as regular motorcycle registration, even if the vehicle is technically considered a scooter or moped.
Keep in mind that this also means you have to show proof that you have completed the Maryland Motorcycle Safety Program before MVA issues you registration.
