Registration FAQs

Even though DMV.ORG comprehensively covers nine critical topics on titling and registration, there still remain a few key facts that don't fit neatly into one of those specific categories. So to make sure no question is left unanswered, we've compiled them in a tidy "frequently asked questions" format.
Choose Your State

While this page encompasses all sorts of issues having to do with titling and registering your vehicle, you will only find information that specifically relates to your home state. And because our FAQ page is refeshingly free of hard-to-understand legal-speak, you can quickly scan for topics that pertain to your own situation.

Each state has registering and titling issues that are unique. For example, in some states the FAQ page provides information about the registering of scooters, motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, trailers, and even (believe it or not) a horse and buggy.

Meanwhile, for other states we address topics unique to border areas, such as what procedures to follow if you buy a car in neighboring Canada or Mexico, or where to register your car if you live in one state but work in another.

Plus, you might find information on VIN inspections, what to do if your registration renewal form doesn't arrive in the mail, ownership rights to titles sporting more than one name, and more.

At DMV.ORG, no topic is too small for us. If it matters to you, look for it in your state's FAQ.
